In a more than forty-year career building boats I've built carvel, clinker, strip-planked, cold moulded, clinker plywood, stitch and glue, sheet plywood and tortured plywood boats from dinghies and canoes to large yachts and repaired countless fibreglass and steel boats as well as wooden ones. I've taught boatbuilding to hundreds of first-timers from dedicated amateurs to at-risk youth. For more than 20 years I've been involved with the Australian Historical Sailing Skiff Association in the work of building, sailing and researching the eighteen footers and other classes of Australian open racing boats. Other pages on this site detail the boats, including the 24' Ranger class yacht I am building in my retirement, and my research and the publication of my book on the origin, history and evolution of Australia's Open Boats and other books, see the HOME Page.
