The ninth round of planking (plus two stealers) has been fastened off, and it's almost time to machine some Spotted Gum for the second pair of bilge stringers. But this will have to wait until we return from Hobart where I will be displaying and racing Britannia against two other historical skiffs at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival, and I am presenting at the Symposium in the Deschaineux Theatre at 10am on Sunday 10 Feb on The Origin and Evolution of the Australian 18-Footer. And on Friday 8 Feb at 4.30pm Lin Pardey will launch my new book Wooden Boatbuilding - The Sydney Wooden Boat School Manuals at the Maritime Authors' Centre on the Elizabeth St Pier. It will be available from then on at the Festival 8-11 Feb and from the website www.sydneywoodenboatschool.com.au from 14 February.

I got sidetracked again as I had to repair a couple of cracked planks in the Bonnie D, our 7' Pee Wee yacht tender, almost 19 years old. I had repaired an earlier split by splining a crack about 5 years ago and it is still perfect, so I did it again. The video shows how. |
